2001: A Space Odyssey
I've just watched this film. 2001: A Space Odyssey was OK... It was kinda confusing and a little hard to follow at times, especially since the film woild just jump into new chapters randomly.
The film definitely gets you thinking, and the visual effects, picture and overall props were phenomenal and really impressive given it was done in the 60's. But at the same time as all of this, there are certain parts of it which I couldn't help but question. Like the very long beginning. The film takes time to actually get into the story of space exploration, and the part with the apes is seemingly inconsequential. But just as it takes time to get into the film, the ending really does drag on a bit and is a real anti climax, in many ways, until literally the last few seconds.
There is little speaking throughout the film as it relies heavily on music and a variety of interesting sounds to tell the story and set the scene. I think they got the balance of talking and music just right though.
One thing I want to emphisize is the amazing imagery of the space craft, planets and scenery. At the beginning, there was an apparent use of (R)MP (Reflective Matte Painting) or just reflective matteing. This is where a dedicated artist will take a "reference" plate, be it a photograph or a moving piece of footage, and adding imaginary elements & scenery using painting techniques to make the scene more surreal, and yet still somewhat believeable.
All of the space craft looked really impressive and believable (real), what's more is that they look better still than some 90's science fiction films' space craft.
Overall, I'd give the film about a 7/10 and I must say that the imagery, props and visual effects certainly attribute to this rating, especially when you take the period in which the film was made into consideration. |

Following events which happened last term, I've recently changed my schedule.
Last school year I was coming into school tired, rushed, behind on work and even more tired. Well I started off this year in much the same manor... or at least that's what it was getting like. I told myself if I was to pass/get through this school year successfully, this couldn't happen and something needed to be done about it.
Two years ago, before my big exams, I remembered getting up really early to work since I hardly ever felt like working once I'd got back from school. I remembered working solidly for about an hour and a half, having a decent breakfast and getting to school on time.
This was beneficial for me because I would go to school:
- Already feeling a sense of achievement (because I've finished off/completed work)
- Alert & ready because my brain has already been working hard
- Happy because I've been working hard to finish off/complete work
So anyway, I decided since I was getting very little work done once I was getting back from school, I'd do what I did two years ago and work when I got up in the morning. I work better in the mornings anyway.
I decided to implement a massive change and scrap going to bed late any time past 9 PM.
Here is my current schedule.
5:30am - Alarm goes off, wake up
5:45am - Get up, go down stares and make instant coffee
5:50am - Turn on computer, check mail & surf the web
6:05am - Begin work
7:40am - Breakfast, get ready for school
7:55am - Leave for school
8:45am - School
4:00pm - School ends
4:20pm - Get back from school
4:22pm - Computer; surf web & check mail
6:00pm - I begin my homework.
6:45pm - I begin my homework for real.
7:30pm - Dinner
8:00pm - Continue homework if I feel like it (I usually don't) play games/chat to friends online
8:45pm - Get ready for bed
9:00pm - Sleep.
5:30am - See above.
This seems to have the desired effect, and I no longer lack serious sleep when I get to school. My bed time is now anywhere between 8 and 9pm (depending on how much homework I have) and I probably go to school feeling the most awake and active. |

The O.C Season 4 is ok... it's pretty cool. Nothing amazing so far after two episodes.
--------------------
Orderd this CD over the weekend:

It's the All or Nothing album by Christopher Lawrence, one of my favourite DJ's! I believe this to also be one of, if not his best, album. New Day sounds like a pretty awesome track too.
I ordered the CD off of Amazon so it should be with me by tomorrow if they're organized and efficient. I literally can't wait. I'm going to rip the CD at 320k bits/second for optimal sound quality. |

The O.C Season 4 Has Landed!
The premier first episode of the new season of The O.C titled "THE AVENGERS" which was aired on: 11/02/06 has begun.
I am totally looking forward to this season. I think it's going to be great. Personally my favourite season is still season 1 and then season 2 and then season 3... so it kinda goes in order. But I think they sortta ran out of ideas, a bit maybe, for every season past 1. However, The O.C still remains a top favourite of mine and I'll continue to watch it throughout this season.
